The Department teaches community subjects for first, second, third, fourth, and fifth year students. It also teaches Nursing Administration, Teaching and Learning, and Scientific Research to the third year students.

 The Department also organizes scientific tours to different locations inside and outside Khartoum. The students have visited Atbara, Gazira, Port Sudan, Al Fashir and Nuba Mountains. In addition, the Department organizes other activities such as lectures and forums.
